Presentation: Spend Wisely: How to choose a Premium Theme

There are hundreds of thousands of WordPress themes floating around and a whole cottage industry built on theme selling. This presentation is about how to evaluate a premium WordPress theme and what to look for when shopping for a theme. This presentation focuses on tradition themes and will not go into detail on frameworks such as Headway, Thesis, etc. The presentation assumes participants are fairly new to WordPress.

What do you want folks to learn from your presentation?

Don’t fall for the flashy stock photos!  Look at the bones of the theme and the support available if something goes wrong or needs adapted.

What attracted you to WordPress in the first place?

Flexibility. Great community.  New plugins daily.  Awesome.

What are you most looking forward to at WordCamp Toronto?

Learning different approaches to WordPress.  What is new and what is coming in the months and years ahead.

Why did you decide to speak at WordCamp Toronto?

I love how much time people spend on themes, plugins etc. and ask for very little in return.  Hoping I can give a little back to the community.

What is your favourite theme or plugin, and why?

I’m a fan of themes by Kriesi.at. Great support too.
