Session Streams & Call for Speakers

Stream in High Park, Toronto

We’re pleased to announce the session streams for WordCamp Toronto 2012! Now all we need is speakers to fill in the gaps. We’ve gotten a good number of pre-announcement applicants already, but today marks the official call for speakers. (Joy!)

Take a look at the stream descriptions below. If you’re interested in speaking about any of the points we’ve mentioned (e.g. introduction to WordPress, customizing themes, or securing WordPress) — or if you have a presentation idea in mind that we haven’t hit on — please give us a shout.

WordPress 101 (Working with WordPress Out-of-the-Box)

New to WordPress? Launching your first website? Jumping into the uncharted waters of blogging? The WordPress 101 stream is a crash course that will take you through the basics of WordPress. Participants in this stream will learn: how to navigate the WordPress dashboard; strategies for writing content; best practices for building a web presence; etc.

This stream is intended to serve both WordPress.com and WordPress.org users. The focus is less on customization and more on how users can make the most of WordPress with minimal tweaks to the software.

WordPress 102 (WordPress.org, Plugins & Themes)

Participants will learn how to find a good web host, install & secure WordPress, install WordPress plugins, themes & frameworks, and how to customize themes & plugins.

This stream is intended to serve those who want to create a custom website experience, without learning how to write code!

WordPress 103 (Improving Performance & Using Analytics/Metrics)

Take your WordPress site to the next level with the WordPress 103 stream. Participants will learn about advanced web metrics, webmaster tools, page optimization (speed & SEO), premium plugins, WordPress multisite networks, and more.

These streams will take place on Saturday, September 29th. (Sunday’s structure is still being determined.)

Sounds great! I’ve already submitted my application to be a speaker, do I need to do it again?

Hi Shanta, we’ve received your speaker app and it’s sitting in our planning spreadsheet. 🙂 No need to submit another one. We’ll be reviewing speaker applications soon.
